Where Hypertect’s roots lie…
Hypertect was founded in 1988 as a design/build firm with Professional Engineers and Construction Management expertise in-house.
The Hypertect Team got its start with Control Data Corporation (CDC), a Minnesota based super-computing firm founded in 1957. The original team’s responsibility was to provide design support services for the critical facility environments necessary to support the super-computers that were being produced and delivered. While working on projects for CDC clients in European and Asian markets, the founders of Hypertect were exposed to the effectiveness of the design-build approach to large scale data center projects. The unique feature of these foreign models was the incorporation of specialized Professional Engineers and Construction Managers within the same firm to working hand in hand.
Valuable Insight
In 1988, Hypertect spun off from CDC as an independent entity. Hypertect was founded as a design/build firm with Professional Engineers and Construction Management expertise in-house. This arrangement provided the particular advantage of ensuring that the design intent was carried through construction from start to finish.
This approach allows each department insight to the other:
Design: The design team gains practical knowledge of the construction process; which stream-lines the design effort and avoids any unnecessary delays in the construction effort of something that might look easy enough on paper, but proves to be very difficult in the physical construction.
Construction: The construction team learns to implement similar complex systems routinely, becoming familiar with their engineering purposes and function. The construction team is able to manage the project from an engineering perspective, understanding the importance of significant details that may not be so apparent to a firm that doesn’t specialize in these environments.
